Government Grants and Rebates

April 1, 2010. We are pleased to announce the extension of the LiveSmart BC: Efficiency Incentive Program.

These incentives are nearly identical to those from the original LiveSmart BC program incentives, with the program utility partners contributing significantly to the incentives related to envelope improvements – insulation, windows/doors and draftproofing.

Program participants with D visits (pre-retrofit home energy assessments) starting April 1, 2010 who complete their upgrades and have E visits (post-retrofit home energy assessments) before March 31, 2011, will be eligible for these incentives. Please read the revised Important Notes on Eligible Improvements on the back of the new incentives chart carefully. (link to brochure)

ecoEnergy Retrofit Incentive

Effective today (March 31, 2010), the Eco-Energy Federal Government Grant program is not accepting new bookings for pre-retrofit evaluations. The cost for each evaluation is $150 plus GST. (additional distance charges may apply for some areas - call for details.) Confirmation of these bookings through a CID must be made prior to 5pm EST, Thursday April 1, 2010. At this time, the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program will no longer be issuing CID's for appointments for federal grant eligible pre-retrofit evaluations.

The program is confident that all eligible homeowners who previously entered the program by scheduling or completing a pre-retrofit evaluation will still have the opportunity to apply for and receive a grant.

Homeowners who are within their current 18 month timeline will still be permitted to apply for an extension to that timeline via the program's online application found at http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/residential/personal/register.cfm?attr=4.

Previous program participants will no longer be permitted to apply for re-entry to the program and submit a second grant application. Program participants who have already registered, and been approved, for program re-entry will have until Mar 31, 2011, or 18 months from the date of their re-entry (whichever occurs first) to undertake the additional qualifying retrofits, obtain the second post-retrofit evaluation, and apply for the program grant.

Canada's Economic Action Plan - The Home Renovation Tax Credit

Home renovations are smart investments in the long term value of a home and also create economic activity by increasing the demand for labour, building materials and other goods. Renovations can also reduce energy consumption and the long-term cost of owning a home.

Temporary, Timely and Targeted Stimulus - The HRTC will apply to eligible home renovation expenditures for work performed, or goods acquired, after January 27, 2009 and before February 1, 2010, pursuant to agreements entered into after January 27, 2009. The temporary nature of the credit will provide an immediate incentive for Canadians to undertake new renovations or accelerate planned projects. The HRTC can be claimed for renovations and enduring alterations to a dwelling, or the land on which it sits. To provide some $3 billion of much-needed fiscal stimulus and encourage investments in Canada’s housing stock, Budget 2009 proposes to implement a temporary Home Renovation Tax Credit (HRTC).

How the HRTC Will Work - The 15-per-cent credit may be claimed on the portion of eligible expenditures exceeding $1,000, but not more than $10,000, meaning that the maximum tax credit that can be received is $1,350.
